Fast and Light….
A date we’ve been dreading has rolled around – it’s a year today since an Avalanche in Glencoe killed some of the people we loved most in the world.
End of mope. Why? Because they spent all their time planning or having adventures with their friends. And we’re grateful. So we made a promise to their memories to try and keep all the grief stuff as pragmatic as we can.
To that end, Sam’s off in Strathpeffer, up near Inverness, riding the Strathpuffer 24hr race with a load of friends. (team Bustin’ your Bell-end – do you see what they did there?). He’s probably got mild frost bite by now and there’s no way that all four team bikes can still be working. But the banter is sure to be of the highest quality filth known to man. Last week we hosted a three day avalanche training course. It was great fun and will hopefully help keep a few folk safe out there.
So that’s it really. Hopefully you’ve already been up to some monkey business this weekend. If not, get on it! At the very least ring someone and get next weekend sorted now.
And have a wee thought for Busty, Chris, Rachel and Una. Preferably a happy wee thought, ‘cos you just know that’s how they would’ve wanted it.
Much love to y’all,
Sam, Lynds and the BV minions.
PS should anyone have any money left in their 2014 charity kitties and feel like marking the occasion, Sam and Ben (Busty’s big brother) will be running Bust’s favourite event in March. It’s called the Grizzly and it’s about 20 miles of bog, steep cliff path and beach running. Sam will probably cry. Ben will probably top 10 it! Along the way they’ll be raising money for the Osteoporosis Society, who funded Busty’s phD. If you fancy helping them to carry on their good work, please hop onto www.justgiving.com
